Regional Science Consortium Seasonal Research Technician
Dates of employment: May 17th, 2021 – September 6th, 2021
(dates of employment may be flexible based on applicant’s schedule and grant funding periods)
Seasonal technicians are employed through the RSC to assist in the Beach Monitoring and Notification Program at Presque Isle State Park. Interns duties include:
- Participating in trainings
- Daily water sample collections
- Water quality data collections
- Water analysis by vacuum filtration using EPA standard methods
- Assist with monitoring buoy data collection
- Data entry
- Daily data input for predictive modelling
- Public notification
Expectations of Competitive Applicants:
The RSC Technician Interns must maintain flexible schedules and are expected to work some weekend days and holidays during the internship. Competitive applicants will include those with previous experience working in a laboratory and students in current pursuit of a degree in environmental science, biology, or another related field. Competitive applicants will be those that work well in a team setting and can have a flexible summer schedule.
Interns are expected to work outdoors under varying weather conditions and must be able to work in chest waders, hip waders, and rain gear. Interns will be working on various terrain including sandy and wet areas. The RSC will provide personal protective equipment during these work scenarios; however, Interns may provide their own as well. Interns must also be able to walk at least 2 miles per day and lift up to 40 pounds. Interns are required to have a valid driver’s license and a Pennsylvania Fishing License. Housing will be the responsibility of the Intern, however contact the RSC for assistance.
