POSITION SUMMARY: Under the leadership of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for daily operations the nursing unit. Able to provide age appropriate nursing care and serve as a resource to the units patient population. Must be adaptable to a fast-paced ever-changing environment. A strong team player. Must possess exemplary customer service skills and demonstrate consistent use of EMMC Caring Behaviors. Ability to communicate well with all members of the healthcare team. Must project a professional image at all times. Responsible for holding staff accountable in maintaining compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation and Joint Commission Standards.
SUPERVISES: Any combination of the following position; Clinical Educator, Staff Nurse II, Staff Nurse I, Staff Nurse, Registered Nurse, Unit Secretary, Monitor Tech and other positions that are required to meet the operation demands of the department.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: BSN, Maine State Licensure.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED: BLS, ACLS (if required) or obtain within 6 months. Leadership in a formal leadership role or evidenced by strong informal leadership qualities and skills. Demonstrates strong clinical skills. Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication skills, teamwork, and organizational skills. Effective collaborative, problem solving skills. Ability to manage customer complaints and staff issues effectively; develop and manage nursing staff competency requirements; and assist in the development and maintenance of departmental directives that relate to nursing process and procedure. Ability to complete a comprehensive age specific nursing care to the population of patients within the assigned unit/area. Flexibility with work hours and activities in response to unit needs.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: Must possess visual acuity, hearing acuity, verbal skills, and command of the English language necessary to communicate with patients, families, physicians, external agencies and staff al all levels in the organization. Must possess manual dexterity necessary for administrative tasks such as preparing reports and departmental budgets and managing quality improvement plan. Ability to communicate in an effective and hospitable manner in person and by phone. Flexibility with work hours and activities in response to unit needs. Ability to learn basic computer skills, to identify own learning needs, to work independently, to recognize need for assistance and seek it in a timely manner, to prioritize work responsibilities and work efficiently in the face of a variety of every changing requests and demands on time. Ability to build supportive relationships with co-workers and evaluate performance of staff members. Ability to adapt to change and modify staff behaviors to meet all regulatory requirements, to adjust staffing to workflow and acuity needs of department, to follow-up or initiate disciplinary actions with goal of changing negative behaviors.
