Under the supervision of the Director of Digital Information Resources in the Learning Commons, as coordinated with the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Faculty and Research, the Digital Collections Manager (Managing Assistant Director III) manages responsibilities related to all resources and collections in the Nancy Thompson Learning Commons (NTLC) and in support of scholarly works by Kean faculty. The Digital Collections Manager (DCM) manages operations to administer and maintain digital resources and assists colleagues with integrating and enhancing digital and legacy collections at the NTLC, Special Collections Research Library and Archive (SCRLA), others such as those in the School of Public Architecture and other units as related to faculty and student learning and collaboration. This position is also responsible for assisting students, faculty, and staff with accessing online collections and resources for use in their courses and research experiences. The DCM will collaborate with SCRLA, the Holocaust Resource Center, the Human Rights Institute and other units to expand access for students, faculty and the community. The digital collections include born-digital material as well as digitized materials from the special collections. The DCM will update current processes to improve digitization and acquisition, metadata, tags, keyword phrases, tracking, and readiness of materials; develop benchmarks for the use of and implementation of effective digital management; coordinate the development of standard digital collection documentation practices; develop policies and procedures for digital management of resources and collections; and perform related work as required.

This position requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours. Work schedule is assigned according to shifts/rotations to cover 24/7 facility and service operations that may vary by academic and calendar year. Operations Management includes the Kean USA campus, as well as other programs/divisions at Kean Ocean, Kean Skylands and its additional location Wenzhou-Kean University, in China. This includes potential travel to and assignments of work at other locations.

This is not a remote position and requires physical presence on campus as determined by the Supervisor. It requires working on campus during the COVID-19 pandemic and interacting directly with students following all procedures and protocols set forth in the University’s Restart Plan and any procedures/protocols created through additional correspondence. The employee must have the ability to wear a face covering for the duration of the workday during the COVID pandemic or as determined by university protocol.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Master’s degree and two years of professional experience in higher education in a learning commons or library environment, multimedia/digital services, computer services, IT or a related field is required. An ALA-accredited master’s degree and work experience in an institution of higher education using an integrated library system or the equivalent is preferred. Prior experience working with OCLC WorldCat; Springshare Suite; Open Educational Resources; and digital collections is also preferred. Candidate must demonstrate fluency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and a variety of hardware/software platforms and products (e.g., Blackboard) and portals used by students and faculty (e.g., Advise, Keanwise, TutorTrac) in higher education. Candidates with experience with digital collections management, special collections and Open Educational Resources and support of scholarly works are encouraged to apply.
