We are seeking an experienced Research Technician in the laboratory of Ethan Goldberg MD/PhD in the Division of Neurology at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The main focus of the lab is to investigate mechanisms of epilepsy and develop novel therapeutic strategies in experimental model systems. The laboratory uses multiple techniques, including cell culture, molecular biology and biochemistry, transcriptomics, electrophysiology, and animal behavior, in vitro and in vivo.
The primary function of this position is as a Research Technician in a biomedical research laboratory in the field of Neuroscience. The applicant will undertake technical support with minimal guidance from the Principle Investigator and senior lab members, including, but not limited to: animal (mouse) husbandry (breeding, handling, minor procedures, and occasional genotyping); immunohistochemistry, mouse behavioral training, molecular biology and biochemistry, and/or transcriptomics, and some lab managerial and maintenance duties. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, self-driven, committed to learning and working as part of a team, and able to perform the above duties with minimal/no supervision; additional prior experience with animal handling, surgeries such as stereotaxic injection of cells and/or viruses, and/or experience with transcriptomics, is considered a plus. She or he will have excellent data recording, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability to multi-task. The highly motivated candidate will have the opportunity to perform independent experiments, interpret the results, and participate in the generation of manuscripts.
Desired Skills and Experience
B.A. or B.S. with a major in a scientific discipline such as neuroscience or biology is preferred. The applicant absolutely must be comfortable working with mice.
