Camp Weequahic, a co-ed residential summer camp in Northeast Pennsylvania, is looking for enthusiastic, fun loving and qualified individuals that can help create a fantastic summer experience for our campers. This position is for people that are hard-working, dedicated, and love to work with children. Counselors serve in a dual role both living with children and teaching in one or more activity areas.
Camp Weequahic offers a wide variety of mixed-media and STEM based options in our Maker’s Common programs. We are looking for staff that are responsible, playful, fun and will love being a part of our Maker’s Common staff. We offer camper activity periods in computer programming, digital photography, garage band/beats making, radio, rocketry, robotics, legos/kinex, and a design creative space we call The Fort. Campers in the Fort can be seen experiencing hands-on science experiments, playing an intense game of RISK, cartooning, lego building with Nimuno loops on the walls, circuit building, graffiti art or curling up in one of our swing chairs to read a favorite book. Staff with a math, science or engineering background do well teaching in these areas. Staff will also have a Program Head onsite and available to supervise, train, and provide continual support and feedback throughout the summer.
Although this is not your typical 9-5 summer job, it is an awesome opportunity to challenge yourself and grow in unexpected ways, all while making a difference in the life of a child and have a ton of fun doing it! If you think you could make a difference as a positive role model, teach something you love, and be prepared to meet hundreds of new friends from around the world we would love for you to apply.
Our dates for this summer are June 16- August 9, and our first year counselors typically make $2000 salary plus a $300 travel stipend, along with room and board.
The Employee Experience:
Being a staff member at Camp Weequahic is much more than a summer job, it’s a unique experience in idyllic surroundings and an opportunity to realize your full potential as you help others realize theirs. You’ll meet people from all over the US and build a network that will last beyond just the summer. Weequahic is a community that encourages growth, teamwork, and provides professional development and ongoing feedback. We help bring out the best in our people and want you to join us!
This contract offers a competitive salary based on experience and includes travel expense reimbursement, housing, staff shirts, laundry service, three meals a day (plus snacks!) and WiFi.
During days off, staff spend their time hiking, spending a day exploring nearby Scranton–shopping or seeing a show, and taking in everything Pennsylvania has to offer. If you decide to stay on camp, staff can hang out in our staff lounge, workout in the fitness center, or use sailboats, kayaks, canoes, and stand up paddle boards on the lake or just relax on the beach at the waterfront.
