Become an AmeriCorps VISTA with Lake Effect Leaders in July 2022

Are you interested in serving your nation and community after graduation in May 2022? If yes, this may be the opportunity for you.

As an AmeriCorps Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA), you have the chance to work on a yearlong project designed to fight poverty. Lake Effect Leaders (LEL) is an intermediary sponsor for VISTA projects in Northwestern PA, which means we build relationships with local nonprofits, agencies and schools.

Eligibility

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in any field
  • Be a US citizen or legal or national permanent resident of the US
  • Passion for service

Benefits of Service

  • Living allowance of $15,002 (subject to change), which is dispensed in bi-weekly payments
  • Segal Education Award or End of Service Stipend
    • The education award is worth $6,345 and can be used toward student loans or future education expenses
    • The stipend is worth $1,800
  • Opportunity for loan forbearance during year of service
  • Non-Competitive Eligibility (NCE)
    • AmeriCorps VISTA is the only AmeriCorps program that allows members to earn a federal non-competitive eligibility, which is a special hiring status
  • Health allowance or insurance; dental benefits
  • Relocation allowance of up to $750.00 if relocating more than 50 miles

  • This application is received and reviewed by LEL
  • Applicants will be screened for eligibility by LEL program staff
  • Eligible applicants will be invited to interview with LEL program staff
