The COVID-19 pandemic has made things difficult for all of us, but as a junior at Edinboro University, you might be struggling in particular—after all, you only had one semester of on-campus learning before moving online. Now that you’re back on campus, follow these five tips to get back on track and prepare for your future.
1. Use our free resources to improve your GPA
Your GPA is one of the factors employers consider when you apply for a job, internship, or graduate school. The switch to online learning and back might have hurt yours—if so, consider working with Edinboro’s Academic Success Center to get free, 24/7 online tutoring in any subject. Rather meet face-to-face? The university also offers in-person peer tutoring through Starfish.
2. Consider an internship—even if your major doesn’t require it
An internship in your field is by far one of the best ways to get your foot in the door and jump-start your career. In addition to getting on-the-job experience for your resume and expanding your professional network, it could even land you a job offer. Some companies prioritize interns for full-time positions after graduation. Take a look at our internship packet to learn more.
3. Apply to on-campus and part-time jobs
Not quite ready for an internship? Don’t worry; there are plenty of ways to enhance your resume and demonstrate the skills that employers value, such as teamwork, leadership, and multicultural competence. One simple way to accomplish this is to work on-campus, which has the added benefit of avoiding a long commute! View our on-campus job openings here.
Off campus part-time jobs are also a great way to gain these skills, and you might be able to explore a wider variety of positions by expanding your search off-campus. Check our part-time jobs page frequently to stay up to date.
4. Get involved!
Clubs, sororities, fraternities, and other campus organizations are a great way to build skills, enhance your resume, and make life-long friends in the process. Edinboro University offers organizations centered on everything from art therapy to law. Search meetings, clubs, and more with EngageEU.
5. Study abroad!
Did you know that Edinboro offers multiple study-abroad opportunities each year? These vary in length, location, and discipline. Global education can make your resume stand out in large pools of potential employees, as well as teaching you valuable skills and imparting the kind of wisdom that can only come from traveling the world. Plus, you might be eligible for financial aid! View opportunities at the Global Education Office homepage.
These are just a few of the ways you can jump-start your professional development and get back on track now that in-person learning is once again available.
