Athena Connections “Emerging Leaders” Program Applications Now Open

The ATHENA Connections College Leadership Initiative is designed to prepare college women for leadership in higher education and beyond. Part of the Edinboro Leadership Institute, this program engages and inspires students to not only see themselves as leaders, but to gain skills necessary for successful leadership in the 21st Century. The program is conducted using the eight leadership tenets from the ATHENA Leadership Model as the basis for the curriculum.

Grounded in research, the ATHENA Leadership Model is based on eight core principles that inspire women to reach their potential. The curriculum provides definitions of each of the principles, examples for gaining a deeper understanding, and exercises so students can apply what is learned. The principles include: authenticity and lifelong learning, courage and fierce advocacy, collaboration and relationship-building, giving back to and celebrating with those around us.

Learning outcomes for student participants include:
• learning how to “be” a leader with a focus on quality and character
• gaining leadership competence necessary for success in college and beyond
• exploring personal leadership attributes relative to the ATHENA® Leadership Model
• applying ATHENA® leadership principles through experiential learning
• mapping out a pathway for leadership growth in college and career
• having the opportunity to build bridges across professional sectors and generations

The Edinboro University Athena Connections Leadership Program is open to all undergraduate and graduate students. All participants must attend each of the meetings in order to fully participate and earn a certificate of completion. Due to the nature of the program, meetings must be attended in-person, and virtual attendance is not permitted:
