Computer Science & Game Development
I grew up with my sister and two mothers in New Wilmington, Pa. I have been wanting to make games ever since I was a child, and I would play old PC games with my mother Cherry. Video games were a way for my mom and me to connect. I was always interested in new mechanics and stories that could only be told with video games. I am thankful for the time my parents put into my interest, and I’m proud to have turned this into a career.
When I came to Edinboro, I knew I wanted to work in Game Development and that the Computer Science program here would help me achieve my goal. I am currently a Game Design Intern at Certain Affinity in Austin, Texas. Out of 89 applicants, I was one of two that got hired. Edinboro provided me with real-world knowledge and experience that allowed me to compete with students from colleges across the country. They also provided access to tools to make sure I had everything I needed to showcase myself as the best candidate for the job.
At Certain Affinity I work on large-scale game systems for AAA games in an independent environment. I also get to collaborate with other designers to create new ideas in games that millions of people will play. The average experience for a designer at CA is 10 years, so I am surrounded by people who can answer any question I have.
Following his internship experience, Jacob was awarded a full-time position as an Associate Technical Designer at Certain Affinity.
