“When looking at schools, Edinboro was on the top of my list. Not only is campus beautiful, but pair that with a top-notch nursing program, and it was the best of both worlds.”
Minors: Biology and Psychology
Since I was a little girl, I always wanted to be a professional in the medical field. I never knew exactly what I wanted to do, but I knew that helping people was the path I would take. I shadowed pharmacists and physician assistants, but I knew that I wanted to be more involved with direct patient care. That’s when I found an interest in nursing. I realized I could do anything I wanted in medicine if I had a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. I found that nursing incorporated the perfect balance of science and medicine into a daily job, while also being able to provide services and take care of others.
When looking at schools, Edinboro was on the top of my list. Not only is campus beautiful, but pair that with a top-notch nursing program, and it was the best of both worlds. After graduation, I will be working as a staff nurse at UPMC St. Margaret, located in Aspinwall, Pa., just eight miles from downtown Pittsburgh. I am one of the first nurses to be hired into the brand-new St. Margaret Medical Surgical Nursing Rotational Program. This program is six months long, and during these six months I will rotate through different medical-surgical units in the hospital. After six months, I have the option of staying on one of these units or working as a nurse in the resource pool. Since I am a new nurse, I am also enrolled into a Nurse Residency Program through UPMC. This will give me a broad education on med-surg nursing and prepare me for a position in an intensive care unit.
